Annatto (Atsuete) recommended for heart diseases

The very popular natural dye for culinary purposes.This tree grows on Tropical and semi tropical land. The tree can grow from 4-6 meter which bears spiny fruits that has a spiny fruits which is the one that is use to make dye. The fruits are dried and collect the seeds to make a dye. My mother usually use this when prepare some dishes like karekare. This tree is widely cultivated all over the country here in Philippines. We use to play this during our childhood to make some pigment or paint. Or even use it like a blood stain. Aside from being useful in food preparation Atsuete or Annatto is also use in natural medicine.

CasSava (Tapioca) for Ulcers, Skin rashes, and Skin Itchiness

When the will say Cassava the first thing that will comes to my mine is the sweet cake baked in firewood. Who would know that cassava is a good substitute for rice and it has a low carbohydrate that is good for diabetic person. This is use for wide variety of delicacies like Chips, Kutsinta, Cake,and many more. Cassava is a well known plant here in Philippines. And it is planted every where like farm and some at home. This can be planted using the stem only. The crop is harvested by the roots which is the edible one. Some parts of the leaves is also edible and eat as a salad. They call the roots as tuber and beside from delicacies they use it to make a starch and sago. Starch is very important and widely use in cosmetic and culinary. It can grow to 3 meters and 3 to 7 deeply.

A tree that can grwos over 20 meters on high. The leaves are bipinnate and hairy underneath. The branches grows widespread. The flowers are borne in peduncles which are axillary, solitary and yellowed coloured. It looks like a poweder puff.

One of the fragrant flower we always picks and place it on the dinning table. We have this plant on our backyard. Our childhood friends always pick it up and place it on their ear for decoration. The plants can grow to 2 meters on height and spread as a shrub. The flower as a distinctive sweet fragrant smell. Some do it as a perfume and  sell it. Some cultivate it to make an oil or even necklace with the Sampaguita flower. I rarely saw this kind of plant now. This flower as a medicinal benefit.

The crab's eye is an annual twiner that grows up to 9 meters long. the leaves are alternated, compounded into pinnate arrangements. The seeds are red and black in coloured, called by the name given on the right. The flowers are in pink and purplish in colour.

Leek (Kutsay) for insect bites and stings, promotes urine flow

This plant is widely use in culinary purposes. I always have this with a chicken porridge added a calamansi and pepper.  The leaves is chop into small pieces and gives a aromatic smell.  It's leaves are widely use for cooking.

This is belonging to the plant family Liliaceae and considered a perennial, sometimes an annual. The stems grows from slightly bulging bulb. The leaves are linear, lanceolate. The disticntive flower is so nice like umbrellate cluste of flowers, white to light-red in colour.

One of the yellowed flowered, smooth-branched ornamental shrub. Its latex is milky and we use it placing its leaves on our ears like earing  during childhood days. The calyx is green and pointed. The yellow corolla is bell shaped. The fruit is green, smooth and rounded. This can grow up to 7-10 feet in hight and can be seen usually on gardens.

Remember the saying that An Apple a day keeps the Doctor away. But even Banana also does. One of my office mate do this every day. He always have his Banana in every meal . So i read more about  the fruit Banana. Banana is a tropical fruit, our country export this kind of fruit to the neighboring country. Today i always take a Banana a day. People got use to call you a monkey when you eat Banana for the reason of monkey loves Banana. I love this fruit it not just nutritional but has so many variety of serving you can prepare with this fruit. Some make it as a bread, a ketchup, shake and Banana split. Some are chips which is my favorite.

Purple Yam (Ube) for Leprosy, Gonorrhea and more

Yam is very popular here in our country.  This commonly use to make a Kalamay a native Filipino Delicy. Some do it with a rice cake and other is pure. I have tasted candies, shakes, and other sweet delicious delicacy of this Yam. Yam is a plant the is a climber. We have cultivate this kind of plant usually place beside our guava tree and climbs all over. I saw two kinds of yam some bears fruit on its stem but other is the root itself which is the Yam. This is also commonly use wide as a vegetable. My mom always harvest this when holiday is coming and make some rice cake of yam. But beside from its being a vegetable and delicacy ingredients. It serves as a medicinal plant also.

Swamp Cabbage (Kangkong) for Antidote on opium and Arsenical Poisoning

One of my favorite vegetable is Kangkong also known as Swamp Cabbage or River Spinach. It has a hollow stem, the leaves are oblong-ovate arrow sharp at base. It has a flower that usually white with a purple stain. This semi aquatic vegetable is very popular in Philippines. I love this on a soup like Sinigang , Sinigang na Bayabas, and even as Adobo. This vegetable is nutritious and very cheap which can be found on every market. My mom always prepares food with this vegetable. It is usually found on rivers and on swamp. I remember this during my high school days and always get some of this plant at a nearby river before going home from school. My cat do eats this vegetable also.

Jack Tree, Jackfruit (Lankga) for Diarrhoea, Insect Bites, Asthma...

One of my favorite fruit is this large well known fruit with full of spikes in it. I thought that the tree itself is called Jackfruit, i usually call the tree also as Jackfruit.  I usually wait for the fruit to ripen on the tree and i will seperate the sweet pulp part inside of this fruit and use it for making shake. Jack Tree grows up to 10 meters or more than which has many branches.  And i even thought it is only good when it is ripe but most of my friend prepare this as a vegetable and also good with coconut milk in it. But what does this fruit contribute to the medical field as an herbal. 

Bread Fuit (Rimas) for Boil with Pus, Rheumatism, Hernia

Upon looking on this tree you will not immediately distinguish whether this is a Bread Fruit or the Seeded one. I just found it on the net that this two are different. So what is the difference between this two and even with the jack fruit.  Maybe if you will cut this into pieces you will surely distinguish which is Rimas or the Kamansi.  To have more idea about their difference Rimas has a flatter outer skin unlike Kamansi which has a sharper spikes on its skin which is similar to Jack Fruit.  But the size will be smaller compared to Jackfruit of this two. The tree of this fruit grows like the Jack tree but the leaves is more bigger which are about 25 - 50 cm. We have this kind of tree in the mountain where we usually get the fruit and serve it as vegetable with coconut milk in it. This fruit usually served as an Indian fry or curry.

Sugar for for continuous vomiting

I just suffered continuously vomiting when i attended a Youth leader seminar at nearby city. The food that i have taken is not digested well that is why i vomited upon going to our seminar. That day was so bad for me. I cannot even concentrate to the seminar. Whenever i take some water surely i will take it it out again and whatever food i will take same thing happen. I was suffering that whole day from continuously vomiting. I haven't taken any meal that day beside from breakfast until i gone to bed with no any food on my stomach. The second time i suffered from this is improper digestion of the Lunch i have taken.
